Furthermore, children between Kindergarten and 6th grade are unaware of the changes in their surroundings. Once gender neutral restrooms are being added into their schools, they begin to wonder what is happening. The New York Times states, “Protecting the dignity of transgender Americans is noble” (Schuck). Transgender individuals have their rights just like every other citizen, yet they struggle with whether or not they can use a certain restrooms based on their sexual orientation from birth and the one they chose later on in their life.
Every individual has the right to his or her own choices and should not be penalized or judged for it. Gender neutral restrooms should be included among communities, but should be restricted from being put in elementary schools to prevent confusion among young children. As they grow up, they will understand on their own and begin to identify themselves whichever they choose. However, along the way, they should not be influenced on society’s definition of certain individuals. Children have a long way to grow and learn more about themselves and deserve to enjoy their childhood without the influence of gender
