The most important reason is that it prepares them for later in life. For example it teaches them how to handle criticism professionally and so it’ll benefit them. One example would be that according to an article by Sarah Davis of Livestrong.com, “According to the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, youth sports can help deter negative behavior, such as joining a gang, because competitive sports provide an outlet for expression, friendship and controlled aggression.” That shows how when you keep in kids in sports it’ll keep them off the streets which is huge for this country that already has a large problem with gangs and violence. Another reason is that when kids are already being healthy participating in sports they’re more likely to make healthy choices in their diet. The final reason would be that it teaches kids to be more acceptive of one another. When kids are already in sports programs they’re exposed to a whole variety of kids—even more than they see in school on a regular basis—that number one lets them make a lot of new friends and two when they’re with more different people they learn to be more acceptive of one another which is what we need desperately in this country where we’re so quick to incorrectly judge one another. The first piece of evidence to support that would be that when kids participate in sports they’re running around, moving and being active it’s super healthy for them. In a country that’s obesity rate that is so high and most kids not getting there much needed 60mins of activity each day, kids participating in sports would do nothing but help them. A second reason would be that they’re getting helped out socially by when they’re on a team they have the ever important sense of belonging. At a middle school level feeling like they belong and fit in is huge for them and their self esteem. A final reason would be that it if they’re on a school team it can boost the school culture. With the kids participating in competitive school teams it helps number one because it can make the kids feel important because they’re out on the court or field representing everything their school stands for which is big deal that’ll make kids feel happy and important. Two when they have a home game and they have all of their friends and the school behind them cheering them on is a super cool, inreplicable feeling something that kids need. Those pieces of evidence just add to all of the reasons why kids need competitive sports in their lives.
