Should juveniles be tried as an adult? This question has been a pending issue in this country.Everyone from lawyers,judges,and even politicians have expressed their own opinion on this matter.however no one has come to long lasting conclusion. Juveniles are not allowed to drink,drive, and even get married. Adolescents are incapable of making a responsible decision. Envision your child committing a crime and then being sentenced to life in prison without parole.Unfortunately this is a case for over 100,000 teens today. In 2005 the supreme court had banned the death penalty for youths because they are less mature and and more vulnerable to peer pressure (Garinger).However the justice system has not yet applied this when it comes to sentencing juveniles in the adult system. Incarstarting young adults has leads to a catastrophic effect on the youth because teenagers are still developing and learning to find themselves it tends to be easier for adolescents to follow their fellow inmates.Placing juveniles in adult prisons often takes away their opportunity to obtain critical skills that are necessary to be used in the real world. Adult prisons strip away their youth by denying their access to education.It makes it even harder for incarcerated youth that are mentally ill because not many prisons house programs that are designed for them. Jail is not designed to help rehabilitate people it is designed to break the strongest individual.It creates away to push offenders out of their comfort zone. A teen named Brian had planned a murder because he ‘’did not fit in’’(lost for life) and recognized that other offenders committing murders were recognized and pushed into the spotlight.Placing Juveniles in adult prisons makes it extremely easy for young offenders to be influenced into doing something they would normally not do.Jail is an extremely violent and dangerous where no child should be near. Children who are placed into adult prisons have a high risk of being sexually assaulted. Research has shown that an ‘’overwhelming majority of young offenders grow out of crime’’ (Garinger) which makes it more likely for the delinquents entering prison to be rehabilitated and reintroduced into society.
