Should Juveniles Be Allowed To Commit Crimes Essay

A hateful crime committed by juveniles should always be punished with a sentence to life in prison. Being a juvenile should not exempt you from receiving a punishment. Even though teens might commit a crime due to an abusive family environment, they must be punished in order to learn that wrong actions will have consequences. It is safe to say that teenagers are capable of committing crimes that any adult would commit. Many argue that a teen’s brain is not fully developed but how come they are able to plan the crime that they want to commit. Therefore I think that these teenagers in a sense are a danger to society and deserve to be sentenced to life. It is everyone’s right to want to feel safe in their communities. This is why age should not be a …show more content…
Every crime has a victim. No one really thinks about the family members of the victim. They need justice, they need to know that the person who took away the life of their loved one is being punished and is living the way they deserve. The family of the victim does not care if the murderer is an adult or a teenager. The point here is that the murderer took away the life of someone and they need to be punished for it.
Lastly, it is a lie when it is said that some teenagers commit crime because they grew up in an abusive or carefree environment. This might be true for some of the juveniles but not all. I know of some who actually do the opposite. They excel in life or don’t want the same for their own family so they do everything in their power to change their way of life. In my opinion this is an invalid excuse. We should not blame others for the actions that we take.
This is why I believe that juveniles should be sentenced to life. Age should not be taken into consideration when a crime is committed. A crime will be a crime no matter what the age is. A life sentence is necessary in order for them to learn from their mistakes and to keep our societies safe from

Also, they want love and warmth from parents. However, Collier does not agree on a separate juvenile system. Collier describes that children committing crimes have to be treated as adults if they use deadly weapons to commit a crime. To treat juvenile crimes should base on how violent the crime is and children’s determination. Juvenile crimes are increasing rapidly.…

This is a part of the "raise the age" movement(Eckholm). Why should juveniles be tried as adults? Juveniles should be tried as adults if they want to make their own mistakes, so they will have to pay for their mistakes. Which Juveniles should not be allowed to have the death penalty. The reason I think that is that children should not be tried as adults and get the death penalty, is that no one should be killed because of their mistakes.…

The way in which a child is raised can have a long term effect on the way that they live their lives. Many people would probably object that the child’s background has nothing to do with their criminal activity because the actions were brought upon by themselves, however examples of juvenile crimes have proven this wrong. The authors of the article “Life sentence: is life without parole for juveniles’ cruel and unusual punishment?”, Dontae Brown and Adele Birkenes, state “People are not born bad. Upbringing and life experience shape the adult that kids become. If a teen commits a murder, shouldn 't the court consider what is happening in his or her daily life?” The court system should look into the juvenile’s background before deciding on their sentence.…

Do you think it is prudent to imprison a troubled juvenile with dangerous criminals which have committed actual horrific crimes? I don’t think it is, but some people from the Justice Department and others believe it would be beneficial for troubled juveniles. Even though they committed a crime and should get punished accordingly, despite their age, juveniles should not be transferred to adult facilities. Because prior to the crime executed or imprisonment, the individual was influenced negatively by factors while growing up and developing, that shaped the individual that way. Also after being imprisoned in an adult facility, the juvenile is more susceptible to execute a crime not only quicker but also to a higher degree.…

The decision to end a life must be absolutely and without question warranted. If society acknowledges and takes mercy on mentally impaired offenders, the same courtesy should be extended to adolescents who experience the same type of diminished capacity. In order for a juvenile to be sentenced to death, they must first be tried as an adult, but they are not an adult. Adolescents don’t have the same brain maturity, emotional maturity or life experience as adults do. The juveniles who commit the crimes that could land them on death row are missing something in their lives.…

Violent juveniles should be considered as adult criminals. Many violent juveniles commit heinous crimes, but only given small sentences or probation. During the probation period, violent juveniles still commit similar crimes because they never realize the consequences of their actions. Juveniles should be treated as adult criminals because many of them are considered repeated offenders. If you let a problem continue on, it only seems to get worst.…

If the point is to keep a dangerous criminal off of the streets, then young offenders are surely better off in juvenile penitentiaries. They will there be just as safely kept away from society as if they served their time in adult facilities. If the point is to punish them, then an entire host of questions arise. What is the purpose of punishing a child? How many parents would punish their children using a technique that is virtually guaranteed to make their children lifelong criminals and inmates?…

    Sentencing Hypocritical

Sentencing a juvenile life in prison without parole is depriving them of their rights and is clearly hypocritical. The minority who are pro sentencing them to life without parole don't take into consideration the possibility there is in enlightening these kids in becoming better citizens and learning from their mistakes. The reason why I consider the sentencing hypocritical is due to the way society treats juveniles and classifies them as “kids” until they commit a crime. I am in full agreement with the majority of Supreme Court ruling of abolishing mandatory life in prison for juveniles who commit murder. Many who oppose my vision on the topic, use claims such as, “they’re old enough to know better” or “a crime is a crime no matter age,” but…

Repeating that traumatic event onto another being is a choice made. In any criminal case, one must have the means, motive, and the opportunity when someone arrests another individual they do not claim that they murdered that person due to being related by a criminal that would be pathetic. People do not commit any crimes unless they are willing to do so on their terms, not from genetics. Many studies have discussed the whole ideology of rape even however, “the researchers who led the work, to a certain degree—warn that the study has some serious limitations.” (Emily Underwood). Also, “Most studies point to early life experiences, such as childhood abuse, as the most important risk factor for becoming a perpetrator of abuse in adulthood.” (Emily Underwood).…

Overall they big picture is that juveniles should not be tried as adults because they are not considered adults and it is the court systems fault for making them believe that they are only adults when a serious crime is committed. It is best if juveniles are kept under the Juvenile Justice Department to learn to be better people regardless of their crime rather then to leave it to the adult court to decide their…
