Should High Schools Prepare Students To Succeed In The Future

It is important that our high schools prepare the students to succeed in the future.
Students need to know what their options are in the workplace with more class options including technical classes. The high school teachers should assist students with skills that they will need to obtain a job and advance in a career. Our world is becoming more dependent on computer based skills and students will need to graduate with the most up to date information. High schools are adapting to these new ideas and teachers are changing their class format.
Many schools in Virginia have added technical classes to their schedule in an effort to offer students more hands on learning opportunities. West Point High School has recently added classes that could assist a student to get a job in auto repair, the culinary arts, and nursing assistant. Students need practice completing a job application and resume. It would be helpful to offer practice sessions for job interviews. The high school could also include a class devoted to work ethics to help train students on human resource topics and good work habits. These hands on type classes could help students to understand the value of hard work and the importance of a career.
High schools will need to update their classes to keep students up to date on computers and other technology that they will need for the new careers. I think classes should include practical training that would help students to learn basic computer programs as well as using cell phones, fax machines, and copy machines. When you enter the workforce for the first time, students may be asked to use cash registers and accounting programs. I think any type of basic knowledge a student can gain with this type of equipment will help them succeed in a new
