Many students are required to become adults too early. If families break up, some students are forced to live on their own. They have to earn a living to support themselves while they attend high school. Other students may become substitutes for absent parents. Instead of hanging out with their friends and building their own social lives, they are forced to be counselors and companions for troubled "grownups." By having to accept adult responsibilities, these high school students are forced to give up their teenage freedom and grow up before they are ready.
