The debate about whether high should start in year 7 or year 8 has been very controversial and because getting a proper education is the first stepping stone towards a successful future all the schools in every state of Australia except SA (South Australia) have decided to make high school start in year 7. Some people however, think that year 7s arent ready for high school the year 7s should stay at primary school.

Many people say that high schools have more reliable and sophisticated technology and resources than primary school. They also have greater variety of subjects and that by introducing younger students to high school will mean students will have a chance to learn in a different environment. Most primary school also often don’t have science labs which means it is difficult to learn about specific subjects. Primary schools only have different teachers for specialist subjects and subjects like: math, writing, inquiry and Christian studies are all taught by the same teacher whereas in high school they have different teachers for each subject. They believe the work load will easierly overwhelm year 7s and cause stress which is bad for their well being. There is also the fact that high school can cost around 3 times the cost of primary school. This means parents will have to pay for 6 years of high school instead of 5 and could mean for some parent wouldn’t be able to afford the cost and will have to send their children to school which don’t have a good reputation. Being a year 7 at primary school gives you a lot of freedom and responsibility without the difficulties of high school research show that almost a quarter of people who start high school fail to finish year twelve and by adding the pressure of high school to year 7s could have disastrous result that could end in more children dropping out of high
