It is now the coaches’ responsibility to prepare the athletes to perform to the best of their ability, to teach the athletes how to be role models to the youth, and to make sure a team is as healthy, both mentally and physically. However, coaches cannot coach an athlete whose mind is clouded, coaches cannot teach an athlete to be a role model when the athlete is associating themselves with a bad crowd, and you cannot have a healthy athlete when their system is full of drugs. High school athletes should be drug tested. A coaches’ job is to teach and coach their athletes to the best of their ability. Athletes listen best when they are focused on an idea or a game plan. They push athletes to do better on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. Athletes can become role models within their town. However, no matter how good an athletes’ performance is on the field it also matters what they do off the field. Using drugs can lead athletes to associate themselves with a negative influencing crowd. I understand that it is not the coaches’ job to babysit their athletes outside of school.
