Gay marriage was completely banned in America until 2004, when Massachusetts granted gay couples the right to get married. A couple states followed and lifted their ban but it was not until this past June that gay marriage was legalized in America. Some cried tears of joy and other tears of anger and disgust, though are lesbian and gay couples really that bad? The divorce rates have been declining recently, but will gays and lesbians slowly start to make it incline or are their relationships going to last? Obviously, each case is different but how do they compare to straight couples? The data they found for the gay and lesbian couples was a little bit harder to find but there are two sources that provided most of the information for the homosexual couples. One being the National Health and Social Life Survey and the other being the General Social Survey. Though, both the straight and gay men attend college because most men go into professions that need extra education like: computer science and engineering. While woman take jobs that do not require as much education like: dance and art. The straight women do not go to college as much not only because they do not usually take jobs that require lots of college (Black, Sanders & Taylor, 2007, p. 64) but because they are also more likely to follow gender norms. This means have they have kids and the women stays at home to take care of them. Though, the lesbians are different. They are more likely to take a ‘mans’ job which means they need the extra education, and they also face discrimination in the workforce along with the gays (Black, Sanders & Taylor, 2007, p. 64; Levine & Leonard, 1985 p.
