Depending on each states government, they choose whether or not varieties of gambling is legal or illegal, and most gambling is only legal in certain geographical locations, such as Atlantic City and near Indian reservations. With state laws having authority, their government gets to decide the regulations of gambling. Throughout the nation, gambling is a larger business than the airline industry, with a near 81 billion dollar revenue in 2013. American voters believe casinos improve their communities, help local economies and promote job creation. Overall, gambling is a very important aspect to the economy and will continue to improve and contribute to the economy. In all, the gaming industry supports more than 1.7 million jobs throughout the U.S. The industry alone directly employs 734,000 American workers, generating nearly $33 billion in payroll. • Casino purchases from its suppliers support another 383,000 jobs and spending by gaming employees sustains yet another 595,000 jobs. These are good paying jobs that contribute a combined $73.5 billion in income for American workers and their families. In states where gambling revenue is more than one million dollars, the number of casino jobs for those states increased by more than 22 percent. According to the AGA, in 2008 State of the States, commercial casinos employed 360,818 people in 2007. The NIGA reports that tribal gambling directly employed 248,000 people in 2006.
