First of all, football is really important to any high school. David Geier, an orthopedic surgeon and a sports medicine specialist, states that, “If you eliminate the football team, you effectively end the marching band, cheerleading, pep rallies and homecoming. You don’t just keep 50 or 100 kids from playing a sport. You get rid of much of the school’s identity”(Geier). An orthopedic surgeon named Dr Michael Behr says that, “Football requires conditioning and strength training, which are excellent forms of exercise and good for cardiovascular health. “You do a lot of different types of training when you participate in football from sprints to distance to interval training and weight lifting,” says Dr. Behr”(Pros). As you can see, football is a great way to stay in shape and be healthy, so if you get rid of high school football, then a lot of kids who would have been getting plenty of exercise playing football, would be getting less exercise and making unhealthy choices.
