Meals From The Heartland Hunger Analysis

Meals from the Heartland fights three types of hunger: food insecurity, malnutrition, and starvation. This is a problem found all across the nation and world. Poor nutrition is a serious problem that has been playing a role in countless child deaths every year. According to the World Hunger Education Service (n.d.), 10.9 million children are killed every year, and poor nutrition plays a role in at least half of those deaths. The World Hunger Education Service has been working for the past 40 years to work on programs that educate the public on hunger and malnutrition, advance comprehension on the world food problem, facilitate communication among those working for solutions, and promote commitments to sustainable hunger solutions. The organization does just that by providing the food, promoting self-sufficiency through programs they operate, educating people about hunger, and advocating for legislation to protect people from going hungry. Furthermore, this network is able to support more than 12 million children through different programs, such as the BackPack Program, Kids Café, the School Pantry Program and the Child Hunger Corps. Individuals, charities, businesses and government all make this happen through support, donations and volunteering. It is incredible to know that there are several organizations, like Feeding America and Meals from the Heartland, that acknowledge the need for food in America. According to Feeding America, 1 in 8 people are struggling with hunger in the United States. I think it is a very common misconception to think that America does not deal with hunger as much as other countries. However, this is one of many statistics that prove otherwise.
