Should Faculty Police the use of Cell Phones in College Classrooms? Should faculty police the use of cell phones in college classrooms? Most of the people expect that we, as students, give a yes or no answer when it comes to this subject, nevertheless I consider that it is a complex question that deserves more than a one-word answer. Therefore, I will explain some of my opinions referred to the use of technology in college classrooms as my thoughts about the use of cell phones inside the classroom, taking notes in electronic devices and the attitude that the professors should take on this subject. At the beginning of the semester, if someone would have asked me about my thoughts of the use of cell phones in college classrooms I would have

I think phones should be allowed in school, we may not have to be on them all the time but we should at least be able to have them incase we need to call someone or if we have free time in a class we could play games, listen to music, or use google, dictionary.com, and an example of is our history book is online and at school sometimes there’s not enough chromebooks or Ipads. Mobile devices are kind of like a drug that children, teens, and young adults can’t seem to put down and that’s not always a good thing. The reason this isn’t always a good thing is because some kids don’t go outside and play, hang out with friends or know how the real world works, most kids would rather play video games and be in a virtual world. The kids that are so addicted to electronics end up nowhere because they don’t know how to deal with real people in life. In article #1 it says “ Lets turn this into a learning device and maybe eventually teens will see it more than just a device for entertainment.”…

If the student have there cellphones in call in they is doing there work and theyn is not doing there work it means they is on there phones. There a lot of reason why students should not have there cell phones in class. While the techer are teching and the students are not listening to her that means it would be hard for the students to learn. I think they should not be allow doing class.…

I’ve considered three things about why Instructors ask students to turn off their cell phones in class. One being it’s very distracting to everyone in the classroom. It will take away everyone’s attention from the instructor and put the attention on the person’s ringing phone. Second, it can be a temptation for someone to cheat. The internet is filled with answers to so many different questions.…

There have been a lot of questions lately about whether or not officials should be allowed to search through phones and other personal devices. Some may say that they should be able to for safety reasons. Officials should not be allowed to partake in the activity of invading a person’s privacy by searching through their phone or other device. Students and suspects, alike, should be allowed to keep their phones away from school officials and police officers. For example, if a student has done something unsupported by the school on social media, the school should leave it alone.…

My first article was titled “Do Cell Phones Belong In The Classroom?” by The Atlantic. In the average high school these days everywhere that you turn and look you can see a cell phone, which may not be such a bad thing. Most schools now allow cell phones in classes merely for safety reasons alone and fear that has sparked from school tragedies worldwide. Now because of these policies there is obviously some abuse to being allowed to use cellphones during school hours, but there is also a heavy positive to this as well.…

When students are allowed to have their phones or laptops during class, they tend to be focused on their devices instead of what is being discussed in class. Allowing students to have their phones or laptops during class can distract the students from what the professor is trying to teach them. Technology’s influence on education, reading, and writing today varies. Technology is both helpful and harmful within the classroom, and also outside of the classroom.…

In modern times it is very typical to see new technology being utilized as a tool in university classrooms. Whether it’s a laptop used to follow along with lecture slides and take notes, or a phone to quickly fact check and connect with others in the class, during lectures, there is a multitude of technological devices at students’ disposal. Despite the benefits of convenience and easy access to resources, Dietz and Henrich (2014) have demonstrated that technology, specifically phones for texting, have detrimental effects on students’ final grade point average. Some professors have taken action against it forcing students to keep their phones or other devices off or stowed away during the lecture period . However, this may not be the most effective…

Technology has gotten so high tech in this past generation that it is affecting the ways students cheat. Students have started to lose their sense of morals and ethics that is causing them not to care that they are cheating. The fact is plagiarism is getting worse and worse because cell phones are an immediate access to find the information they need. Plagiarism is more than just academic, legal, political, and social debate. Saha states that people rely on “copy and paste” when it comes down to plagiarizing and being lazy in this society(2377).…

Every second of everyday students on Cleveland State’s campus are being brainwashed by tiny, pocket-sized computers called cell phones. With headphones in and heads down into their bright screens, they are morphing into emotionless, unintelligent robots. While older generations could potentially argue the previous statement to be true, it is safe to say that it is an exaggeration. America has not yet turned its millennials into brainless robots; however, we can ask ourselves one important question: is America too reliant on cell phones? With the upcoming growth and variety of cell phones, America is undoubtedly too dependent on cell phones, and students at the college level can be used to exemplify this reliance.…

Cell phones are great, but they just cause so many distractions in school. When students ask if they can look up something, they just gonna get on social media to look at how many likes they got on instagram or how many followers they have. Since we have been talking about cell phones as our writing unit, it made me think of so many reasons why we shouldn’t have cell phones in school. One example from an article called “ Schools seek balance for cellphones in class” says that the texting, tweeting, and Snapchatting during class time is an incredible distraction, and it makes it harder for teachers to teach. Another example from the article” Schools seek balance for cellphones in class” is teachers will get kids saying “ I’ll look something up for English, and while I’m here let me quickly check my Instagram or Twitter feed’ From this article, these were some good reasons why schools shouldn’t allow cell phone usage in school.…

The younger generation is glued to the phones. Professors are starting to worry about their students. Students would complain once electronic devices are not allowed in the classroom environment. For instance, “what if I need my calculator for help” or “I need my phone out in case of emergency” are some of the general arguments you hear (D 'Agostino). All Professor D 'Agostino wanted was to be able to show her students that “we can be unplugged from the social media for an hour and fifteen minutes”…

According to my survey made among the freshmen students in UC Davis, 95% of the participants who filled up the survey carries their digital devices when they attend the lectures. For those who carry their devices, they would absolutely use it during the class. They might have different types of devices, but commonly students’ purpose of using devices are taking class notes (42%) and looking up class-related notes (36%). It is not that surprised to see such a result because we are living in an age of technology. In the classroom, they may record the important notes from the professors, at the same time students may look up the questions they have in class at the same time so that they may clarify the information they learn from the…
