In her article, Should Everyone Go to College?, Stephanie Owen describes some of the negative effects that colleges might have on students. She mentions the underlying problems such as “unemployment after college, large college debts, huge classes, and uncaring professors” (Owen). Hrabowski criticizes the negative way in which people view colleges. Hrabowski states that “when we focus so heavily on monetary inputs and outputs, we ignore the question of what it truly means to be educated” (260). What Hrabowski means by this statement is that we often only focus on the expenses and salaries of college students. We should instead look at life lessons that college students benefit from. Some writers have even stated extreme examples pertaining to why colleges is the best option.
