Passive euthanasia has been a method in which cannot be controlled due to the autonomy of the patient. Patient autonomy has a major impact upon decision making throughout medicine, and continues to be a major principle throughout the world. As active euthanasia becomes more widely spread and acceptable throughout the world, we will begin to see an increase rate of deaths by euthanasia with in those states/countries. For example once euthanasia was legalized in Belgium the rate increased significantly. Between 2007 and 2013 a significant increase from 1.9 to 4.6% of deaths has been seen. Both sides have valid points since topics such as death and assisted suicide are extremely sensitive. Other factors such as religion and culture also play a major role with in euthanasia. Ethics will also always play a major role when new laws are being made. Euthanasia has become a popular debate throughout our country and throughout the world. Many view Belgium and The Netherlands as both great and terrible for their new laws, but, we these topics are beginning to play a major role in our society and medicine. States like Washington, Oregon, California and Vermont have all legalized euthanasia under certain patient conditions. These conditions all have the common theme of a patients “loss of dignity” and the autonomy of the patient to decide whether they want to continue living under these conditions, regardless if it may be a child or an
