We all have the right to privacy and feel like what we do in our “private” lives should not effect our professional work lives. However, what if of our off the job conduct is just down right unprofessional, immoral, or just illegal? Do employers have the right to terminate an employee if the private life is not a good representation of moral integrity or the conduct is damaging to employers ' reputation?Should such offense be overlooked because that employee is good at their job ?These question come in handy when one is in a position where the person is supposed to be a good examples in moral,for example,a school teacher. The Pettits where all about sexual liberation and often discussed the lifestyle on national TV. They used disguises when making public appearances ,but one of Mrs. Pettit 's co-workers still recognized them ,outing her lifestyle to the rest of their colleagues. One year later, the Pettit was arrested at a a private club in Los Angeles called “The Swingers” a nightclub know to sponsor parties for the promotion of diverse sexual activities for its members. Officer Berk , was undercover at one of the parties,witnessed Mrs Pettit, give three men fellatio(oral sex) within in a one hour period. This lead to Pettit getting arrested and charge with oral copulation. Pettit agreed to a plea bargain and pleaded guilty to misdemeanor of outraging public decency. In the aftermath of the incident , Petitt did managed to get her teaching contract renewed for the next year, but two years later the Board of Education stripped her of license to teach most likely due to the decision Pettit made by engaging in immoral and unprofessional at the party,she was unfit to teach. As I stated before, Mrs Pettit 's performance as a teacher seems to be upstanding. However ,professional and personal matters (private)should be kept separate and judged differently. Unfortunately, being a teacher(although not limited to teachers) you are held a different moral standard both inside and outside the classroom.
