Should Elective Subjects Be Allowed In Public Schools Essay

Public schools all over the country have several elective subjects such as band, art, and choir. These classes are for students to practice abilities other than just academics. All students are different and have strengths in different places. Due to a variety of reasons, schools are making major budget cuts and eliminating these important elective subjects. Schools should not cut important subjects such as art, band, and choir because students need a break from classes that only involve paper and pencil, students need to find out their talents and students should get the chance to be creative and think outside of the box.

Public schools should not be limited to just the four basic academic classes because students often get bored with all of the tests they are required to do. They need a break throughout the day to do other things such as playing an instrument for band or memorizing a song for choir. Students are still learning, just in a different area. In art class, students learn to draw with their own unique styles. In band, they figure out which instrument fits them best. Choir allows students to identify what type of singer they are such as alto, tenor, soprano, or base. Students get to be themselves and not worry about their grades.
Students can use elective subjects to find what they are passionate about or hidden talents that they were unaware of before. They use these classes to think outside of the box and get creative. These different classes also help the brain work in different ways which can help with other school work. It is also a nice break for students that are using pencil and paper all day.
