"Can They Slop Themselves?" Reason 47.3 (2015): 30. MasterFILE Complete. Web. 5 Feb. 2016.
This article addresses which, if any, of the 2016 presidential candidates will cut government budgets. All of the candidates have fairly different ways that he or she plans to approach this problem. One candidate says that if we cut all departments spending by 10%, over the course of several years the United States’ situation would be much better than it is now. Some of the candidates have said they are for cuts, while voting for or against bills that leave people questioning where the candidate really stands on this important issue. As one of the issues I plan to discuss is the national debt, I feel I can use this source in my research paper.

He also makes the point that many places have experienced an increase in crimes and homicides in places where handguns had been recently banned. Since this method has proven ineffective, Cruz says it is more important to focus on punishment for violent criminals. In addition to punishment for criminals, he also thinks there should be more work to keep the mentally ill from being able to get a gun. Since gun control is one of my issues, I should be able to use this source for information about where Ted Cruz stands.

18, 2017 Paul Krugman’s opinion piece, “Complacency Could Kill Healthcare,” was written after three previously failed attempts of the senate to pass a repeal on the Affordable Care Act, and just before the fourth attempt, the Graham-Cassidy bill. In it, the author proclaims that complacency by the American population, much like the complacency that was evident during the 2016 presidential election, could end up letting this bill pass - just like it let Donald Trump win. Krugman lists the crucial and necessary points of the Affordable Care Act: insurance being required for all, Medicaid expansion, eligibility for insurance with a pre-existing condiotn, and premium subsidies as the very same aspects that all previous attempts at an ACA repeal, and the upcoming Graham-Cassidy bill have and would subvert. The author points out that there are enough electorates who consistently vote within party lines that those left over are the ones that “can tip the balance in favor of even the worst candidate imaginable.” So even though the goals of any republican partly-led attempt at repealing the ACA should draw ire and action from anybody who supports the ACA, not enough people take the threat seriously as “the news cycle has moved on, taking public attention with it.”…
