The president should not be allowed to withhold information from Congress. Especially when (1) he gives his spouse, who does not hold statutory office, a massive government job that affects the entire country’s health care. Allowing even one president to keep records a secret would seem to make it okay for any president to claim their so-called “executive privilege” when they seem “fit.” Hiding what are supposed to be public records is unethical and deceiving and evokes suspicion. It is the right of the public to know and be aware of what the government is doing, so when executive officials refuse to disclose information, especially in the context of health, justice and the environment, this right is violated.
