Whether or not community college should be free to attend is a widely debated issue. It has the nation split on what choice would benefit the nation. Some say providing tuition free community college would benefit the lower income students of the nation who can't afford the nation’s top rated universities. They would settle for free community college than an expensive four year university. Others believe that providing tuition free community would just create more problems than it solves and wouldn’t help those for which it was intended to help. It's even one of the main issues for presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, believes that free community college is best for all, is garnering large amounts of support from the younger college generation for his …show more content…
While that is a noble goal, it would be best to find a way to help support all students. Instead of making community college free for lower income students attend, focus should be shifted to making Universities more accessible and affordable to all. Most student agree that attending a university is preferable than community college. It's even proven by the American Institutes for Research reports that “40% of community college students earn a degree within 6 years compared with 74% at private non-profit and about 63% at public universities”. So it makes more sense to find a way to lower the cost of a university for all students. Community college shouldn't be the final stop in a student's academic career. A university is where a student can find the tools necessary to succeed in life through the knowledge and experience gained there. Boen Wang, a sophomore majoring in engineering science at Penn State who was featured on The Daily Collegian’s Wednesday column, wrote an article called Reasons to make community college free. He insists that making community college free is possible and could potentially reshape higher education. He pinpoints one of the effects of high tuition and presents, “Lack of financial resources is one of the major reasons for such low graduation rates” (Wang). This should worry the college’s staff simply because one of the school 's purposes is to get everyone to graduate. With these low rates, students wanting to apply for the school will not feel confident and are going to assume the institution cannot deliver academic support.…

Community College Should Stay the Same I don’t agree with Barack Obama’s idea of having free community college. There is many points that you will have to consider when you think of free community college, such as the professors not have the same wage that they are earning as if now. There will be students that might not take the education seriously, their mind will be that since it’s free it will not really affect him/her but as it won’t affect their budget it would affect the university that they'll be attending after community college. I also believe there is no point on making community college free because it is not expensive at all compared to universities but if you think that the tuition you are going to be getting is expensive there…

One of the changes that they are trying to enforce is the idea of free college. In the article, it states that “Bills are pending to carry out President Obama’s America’s College Promise proposal to make community colleges free to responsible high school graduates.”…
