Columbus Day, we get a day off of school to rejoice, but is it actually worth to celebrate? Columbus Day is celebrated across the country in almost all of the states. Some enjoy the holiday, some don’t. Columbus Day shouldn’t be celebrated in America. Columbus Day isn’t worth to celebrate considering the terrible events the Natives had to live through. The population of the Native Americans during the era of Columbus decreased dramatically. In about 1518, 25 million Natives were alive, but by 1548, there were only 5.5 million left (Doc 6). It goes downhill from then and just gets worse. The Spanish weren’t treating them right, by putting them to hard labor at force with no say in what to do.
