In my opinion I don’t think college should be free, I think your ability should determine your college education. When a college is free, students don’t necessarily appreciate it. In the long run, it could be more expensive on the majority if college was free through tax dollars and struggling families would have a harder time surviving with raised taxes. With a degree, people in poverty would have the opportunity to get better jobs. It seems like that would work, but that simply wouldn’t help because the expensive. College also takes time, people wishing to go back to college still need the money from their jobs. With time spent taking online courses or going to class, they could be working and making money. Taxes would keep people working to maintain financial stability to support themselves. The more expensive the taxes, the harder it would be for impoverished people to pay bills.

There are just so many cons to a free college education. Some students would treat their free college education poorly, just breezing by to pass because that’s all that’s required. If you just went through college now, it would most likely be cheaper than paying for it through taxes all throughout your life and the fact that the expensive new tax could further hurt struggling taxpayers just isn’t worth it. A free college education just really isn’t

Everybody would be paying with taxes for this free college. Although people might not have to pay a lot of taxes, that is still more taxes that I personally do not want to pay. Another idea that I liked from the article was how there are programs that help with paying for books. Books, tuition, and living expenses is the main expenses for a college student. If books were cheaper at book stores and tuition was little to none, there would be a lot less student loan debt.…

Taxes are paid for the police, for the roads and for the social security etc.…

Education For Everyone Education is something that everyone should be able to have. Knowledge is not something that should be for sale. Everyone should be able to have equal opportunity. This is why there should be no cost for receiving a college education. The general argument made by Carol Roth in the article “Free Community College Isn’t Free...and it’s a Bad Idea” is that saying that college will be free when it really won’t, and it will cause more problems and evidently not solve any current problems.…

For students to understand the investment of an education shows a maturity that they developed by taking out loans. It is required for students to undergo a seminar about loans and how it should be monitored. This helps students understand the real life aspect of adult hood and money management ("Huffington Post" ). If college were to be free, yes students would not have to take out any loans whatsoever but many would not develop the maturity needed for life after college. It is understandable for students to disagree with the argument and refute that college is something that should be free to anyone.…

School is a necessary system worldwide to invest in a society 's future. The primary argument as to why educational institutions should be free in the U.S. is not to give everyone the equal opportunity to education as stated by Lawrence (a professor of History emeritus at SUNY Albany) although it is one of the reasons, the primary reason is to increase the number of educated workers to hopefully improve our economy. It is stated that an “educated work force has become an essential component of economic growth and competitiveness (Student Aid Alliance). However, college tuition filters out those who are not willing to pay for their education and also funds universities so that they are able to function and upgrade their facilities. College should not be free because it would lead to tax raises, the value of a degree would decline, and the overall quality of the educational environment would decrease.…
