Do you think college level athletes should gain compensation for playing in the sport they would like to pursue? Well, college athletes bring a huge benefit to the table while they truly don't gain anything out of it for themselves. College sports are a multi-billion dollar industry, with television contracts, merchandise sales, and ticket revenue driving the financial gain through the roof. Marshall's argument is supported by a quote where he states, “Oh they deserve it, and the reason why is they do so much. The NCAA is the one who's making all the money. They're making money off these kids, and the kids are busting their tail while everyone else has their hands out taking all the money. So hell yeah they should be paid, for sure” (Marshall 10). This quote states how college athletes deserve compensation for their contributions. The speaker highlighted the inequality between huge profits generated by the NCAA and the lack of financial support for athletes. These perspectives aligned with my thesis on how college athletes deserve fair compensation. In this article “Calls for College Athletes Increasing” published on December 1st, 2020, Chris Knoster, an associate professor at Ohio State University, presents a compelling argument for the fair compensation of college athletes. Writing for USA Today magazine, Knoster highlights findings from the national sports and society survey, which reveals widespread support for paying college athletes.
