Can you imagine working more than 40 hours a week and not getting paid? What an atrocity! Well, these college athletes are spending many hours training, practicing and playing a sport. Many people have proposed the question as to whether college athletes should get paid or not. People debate that paying college athletes would change the game because the athletes would only play as determined as relevant as to their payment. Others believe that these students are already being compensated by college institutions because they provide them with scholarships. Contrary to this belief, the dedication of the players for the game would not falter, instead a salary would benefit these players by allowing them to earn money while honing their athletic skills and not having to worrying on how they will pay for books, food, or the bare essentials. This would be a salary that would help them alleviate their living expenses as well as teaching them how to manage their money. …show more content…
The funding is there it is just that the colleges and the television stations are reaping in the profits and not sharing them with those who do the work, and those are the college players. Some college athletes work for 90+ hours a week training and studying, many miss their meals in the dining facilities and often go hungry because they cannot afford to purchase a meal (A). Secondly, many athletes do not come from privileged backgrounds and cannot rely on their parents for extra money. Sports have afforded them the opportunities to attend college and sports is what will occupy the majority of their time in college (A). Having a part-time job would hinder their time allotted for them to excel in their sport and their academics. Paying these players would help make college life easier by enabling them to purchase clothes,books, and food, as well as offering a peace of mind thus allowing them to concentrate in the academics and the
