College athletes have poured their heart and soul into the sports they worked so hard for day after day. For decades, an athlete’s love of the game has got them into a college where they can showcase their skills and talents. When at the college level it is more than just a game, it is a player’s job is to bring in a profit for the college. In recent years, there has been a question that lingers in the mind of every athlete, fan and professional alike: should college athletes get paid? People fall in love with college athletics because the athlete is playing for the school pride and not for the money. The innocence of college athletics would dissipate if it became all about the money. Athletes are already treated differently from the normal student body and paying them would only increase the gap. Money invested towards academics would decrease in order to maximize the money to be poured into the athletics departments. It would create a tension between students and athletes. These are major issues that, a college will face that will lead to the athletic departments of colleges becoming businesses instead of helping athletes receive an education that will help them after sports. “Scholarships are not a way to facilitate the education of those who would not otherwise have the means to attend,” but instead intended to help students who don’t have the means to attend the normally and have a talent that exceeds normal ability. “Scholarships were not intended to be a way to attract top athletes to a school” students have no interest in academically. “But, in many cases that is what they have become” (Bleacher Report Nov. 20,
