Athletes are not just athletes when going to college they are student athletes, this means that they are students first then an athlete. In many cases however students are expected to put there athletics above their education. This is because colleges realize how important it is for them to win and how much revenue they make off of athletes. And when making money colleges consider athletics to be more important than their education. In most cases however the most revenue comes from basketball and football teams. Last year’s bowl games earned more than $500 million dollars in combined payouts for participating schools and conferences. This was more than enough money for the college but the athletes that helped to contribute to this money didn’t see a time. Colleges use athletes as bait to help them get more money without them receiving a dime of what they earned. In 2014, 20 former college athletes sued NCAA claiming the NCAA was unfairly using their likeliness for commercial purposes such as video games.
