Should College Athletes Be Paid? Essay

Many people have recently raised controversy on the subject of whether college athletes should be paid or not. The student athletes feel they should be paid for their performance on the field due to the fact that they spend most of their free time on the field or court practicing the sport they love and they cannot afford to manage school, sports, and a healthy sleep life style on top of working to be able to afford things. College athletes should not be paid for their performance on the field. The student athletes should not be paid to play because they are in school for education, this could cause issues for colleges with auctioning, this can cause money problems for the student athletes, and sports are not a job they are a choice. Student athletes are merely in school for the educational purpose and the perusal of a degree to begin their futures as a fall back plan if sports fall through for them. Most, if not all, high school athletes would love to be in the position of a college commit with the intent of continuing the career of playing the sport they love. *fact about how many athletes are on scholarships*. Given the fact that x% of athletes are on scholarships, plenty of ex high school athletes would love to play the sport they love or used to love and play in college while on scholarships or they would love to have scholarships in general just to go to school and have less worry about the funding of their education.
