Kenneth Cooper is a Pulitzer Prize winner, has been an newspaper reporter and editor for roughly thirty years. Cooper specializes in government, politics and social policy, at the Washington Post, Boston Globe, Knight Ridder, St. Louis American, and St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Cooper’s article “Should College Athletes Be Paid to Play?” discusses the opinion of two Michigan State Law professors Amy and Robert McCormick and how according to the U.S. labor law, college athletes indeed qualify as employees and are entitled to negotiation of wages, hours, and working conditions. This relates to my topic because it provides legal evidence of why college athlete should receive somewhat of a salary.

Michael Rosenberg joined Sports Illustrated as a senior writer, after working at Detroit Press for 13 years, spending 8 of the 13 as a columnist. Rosenberg has been named one of the top 10 sports columnist in the country by the Associated Press Sports Editors. This article argues whether not college athletes should be considered employees at the university's so they can unionize and are able to receive a salary. They discuss how Michigan State men’s basketball team was unable to attend class because of a tournament, even though school work is suppose to precedence over school work. This article relates to my topic because they discuss the fact that athletes could be considered employees at the University.
