The buzzer of the last quarter goes off. The team suffers a devastating loss of 4-20. The team is not upset though, because they know they tried their best, and they have developed new skills that teach them to rebound from a devastating loss. They also know, that since they lost one of their players because of a concussion from basketball, that they lost their top player, but they are trying their best and the team fights until the end of the game. Competitive sports are very important for young students. They help develop skills, help academically, and physically. Some people think that sports should not be in schools because of the risk of injury, but the National Institute of Health says otherwise. Therefore, there should be strong sports programs in schools. Participating in competitive sports in schools are very important because they develop skills that the student would not learn otherwise. In the article “Should Children Play Competitive Sports,” it states that kids that play competitive sports are “more likely to continue exercising as a way to stay physically fit and mentally awake. Athletes generally stick to healthy diets, are less likely to smoke or engage in destructive actions and tend to maintain these behaviors through adulthood.” This shows that kids that play competitive sports are physically healthier and generally have good nutrition habits.
