Should Children Be Sentenced To Life In Prison?

Would you enjoy seeing a thirteen year old receiving a life sentence on your TV as breaking news? Stating reasons like, children do not know between right and wrong, they live in such a different mindset or argue that these children are not yet considered adults under the law. Though, those who oppose can lay out the case that kids do know the differences between right and wrong. The opposing side may not be very much open to the idea that children would be able to have not as strong of a consequence as adults. Considering my sense of values children should not be sentenced to life in prison. First of all, when children are committing a crime it is a big window that they are most likely using their imagination out of true reality. For instance the book Lord of the Flies quotes, “The sticks fell and the mouth of the new circle crunched and screamed the beast was on its knees in the center, its arms folded over its face.’’(Golding) pg.152. Children are widely known for always being considerably happy and an ingredient for their happiness is their imagination. It can be known as a fact that children will always live in a world of fantasy until they grow up and are open to reality. Children are still young and are still learning new things and there brain cells are not fully developed. Due to the immaturity of children they shouldn’t be faced with a hard reality when they may not even be close to becoming adults. Legally one is an adult at the age of 18 so many should take in consideration the law that children should not be punished as adults when in the first place they are not known as adults under the law. In summary children have a right to a second chance in life and should not be punished because of a crime that was done by a child with an innocent
