The true problem, in which causes the lack of teaching children culinary skills, does not stem from the lack of willingness to teach, but the lack of ability to teach. Nowadays, cooking isn’t necessarily necessary, but is more like a useful trade such is being able to build a fire or change a tire. It’s good to know, but it isn’t essential to ones survival. Because after all, there are people who are paid to cook for you and there are people that want to cook for you as well. And because our culture has fallen into the habit of eating out, or purchasing ready-made meals, or TV. dinners that need only the microwave to prepare, we haven’t really the need to learn to cook ourselves, and thusly haven’t the skillset to teach our children to cook. Also, another reason is the fact that we live in a “go,go,go” country. There isn’t enough time in the day to rest, think, or eat! Children are thrust from one activity to the next, in front of homework, and sentenced to bed on the brink of darkness, while at the same time parents are just as tired from taking care of the children or having to continue work even when they get off work. This is one of the reasons why fast food and frozen meals have become so popular is because they are quick when there isn’t any time to cook.
