Whether it should be compulsory to get vaccinated is a very disputable topic that has been going on for a very long time. Recently research has shown that vaccinations have many side effects that affect the recipient and others. Side effects such as headaches, upper respiratory tract infection, stuffy nose, sore throat, joint pain, abdominal pain, cough, nausea, diarrhea and fevers are common. But in extreme cases (less than one in 100,00) people have allergic reactions. If people that are able to have vaccinations choose not to have them, then they put the people that are unable to have vaccinations at risk because the non-treated people may be carrying the virus.

For example there are obviously going to be risks when getting a vaccination shot but these risks are not as high as when you do not get vaccinated at all. But when taking the risk of not getting vaccinated you are also strengthening your immune system, but this is a risk that has to be decided. Another risk when taking a vaccination is the fact that you are putting at yourself at risk because every 1 in 14,000 may have seizures, every 1 in 1000 children can suffer non stop crying for 3 or more hours. Also every 1 in a million can suffer long term seizures, coma, and even long term brain damage(cdc.gov, 2015). However, a recent statement made by Dr. Anne Schuchat, the director of CDC’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases said that there has been no measles related deaths in the US since 2003(Health Impact News, Brian Shilhavy, 2015), which really is a good achievement.
I truly believe that vaccinations should be compulsory just based on the fact that they have been successful at bringing diseases to a standstill. The risks are there when taking the vaccination but is not anywhere near the risks of not getting the vaccine at all. Also if they do become compulsory it will also benefit the people the people who are unable to receive vaccines, so really it is a win win
