First, you might think that these children actually volunteer to fight. In reality, most of the minors that are recruited to fight in wars don’t actually want to join them, usually this is fueled by a loss or being captured and forced into an army. Bosco Ojok, who used to be a child soldier before escaping, was “abducted near his … house by the Lord's Resistance Army” (Web, 14 Aug. 2006), which was one of the child soldier armies. Although some of the child soldiers “voluntarily” joined, they regretted joining later on, barely any of them actually enjoyed killing.

Actually, the child soldiers shouldn’t be the ones getting punished, the adults or commanders behind commanding them should be. The “commanders using child soldiers should be [the ones being] prosecuted” (Web), not the child soldiers. The child soldiers were usually forced to do the harm, most of them didn’t want to, but they were threatened that they would be severely punished if they didn't follow orders. “Many child soldiers expressed fear of being executed if they did not comply with orders.”(Web, 16 Apr. 2008) I hope that this essay convinces and shows you why children participating in the wars as child soldiers should be given amnesty. My own view on the subject has shifted a bit because now I know that the children would not only be minorly punished, they might be executed if they tried to escape or broke an army law.
