Should Cheating Be More Tolerated? Cheating has grown to be more and more prevalent as the years go by. According to Glass-Castle, cheating among high schoolers has increased dramatically over the last 50 years. To put this into perspective, here’s a statistic: in the 1940’s about 20 percent of all college students admitted to cheating in high school. Today, that percentage comes in somewhere between 80 and 90 percent. The million dollar question is, why has cheating all of a sudden exploded in the last 76 years? Is it because the consequences have gotten lighter? Is it more socially acceptable? Or has it just become so essential that everyone’s doing it? I believe that cheating has become more widespread because it is necessary, even though it is morally incorrect to cheat.
You may ask yourself, “what are morals?” well, according to the Oxford Dictionary, morals is defined as the concern with the principles of right and wrong behaviour. Is it just a moral thing, or is it genuinely just bad to cheat? What are the motives to cheat, and do people really succeed even if they cheat? What kind of students cheat, is it just the not-so-good students, or do academically inclined students cheat as well? Why have good grades become more of a focus rather than morals and educational intake? One thing’s for sure, there is now more pressure to be academically outstanding than ever before. If you do better than your peers in everything, and get better grades than them, it’s no secret that colleges would much rather accept you than your classmates. Not only will colleges accept you, but jobs may be more inclined to employ you. The more educated you are, and the more proof you have, the higher chance you have of getting accepted or
