Goodbye Cell Phones, Hello Rising Grades Students in high school that are over the age of sixteen are more addicted to their cell phones (Mathews). Cell phones typically come with many features now including cameras. Imagine what the school would be like if pictures of students undressed in the locker room began circulating through social media sites, emails, and text messages. Students that use cell phones in high school make spreading rumors easier, and rumors being spread disrupts and delays students’ academic progress and often attendance. When cell phones ring during class, it disrupts the students and teacher; this often causes the teacher to lose his or her train of thought. Thus, cell phones can be a major learning distraction in public high schools. Teenagers have learned to text without teachers seeing, making it easier to send texts while testing. Students skip more school because of bullying, and with cell phones in schools cyberbullying is more likely to happen. Cell phones lower the possibility of a high school student getting their education because they are too busy worrying about social media. Students also skip school because of bullying and/or illicit photos being sent around school due to students being allowed to carry around a phone. Schools would be a safer place and would help prepare students better for the real world if cell phones were banned. High school students that do not use cell phones are more likely to have better grades. Without cell phone usage in high schools there would not be as much bullying and the attendance would be higher. Young people are more easily distracted, that being said cell phones can be easily taken out of a pocket or bag and students can easily check their phone without getting caught and end up not learning what their teacher is
