Should Celebrities Be Held To The Same Standard

With today’s technological advances, we have more access to information than we ever did before. Blogs, magazines and newspapers are easily available through the Internet or even in stores such as Walmart and Publix. What’s even shocking is that most of today’s news information is centered on celebrities and what they are doing with their lives. It seems as if society has grown an obsession with them. Even news reporters have stories that involve celebrities during their segments. They have a great deal of influence over the general public that seems to be growing more and more every day. Some people look up to celebrities and treat them as if they were “god-like” figures. Celebrities should be held to the same standards as non-celebrities. …show more content…
In today’s world, they are treated like royalty and some people worship the ground they walk on. But celebrities should not get special treatments like that; they need to be treated like the rest of society. Our television channels should not be wasting time and energy to catch up with who they are dating or where they are going on vacation. Thousands of people make huge amount of money and gave access to the same privileges yet they remain unheard of and out of our radars; famous people should be the same. Their everyday activities must be left out of the public’s eyes and the unnecessary media coverage about them must stop. Sure they make a lot of money in various ways like singing, acting, or in athletic sports. Millions of others pursue the same interests and work just as hard as them to make a living, some even work harder. The only different is that opportunities are unequally distributed and some people get luckier than others which put them at an advantage. Celebrities are like every other human being on the planet. The only factor that stets them apart is the media coverage they get and that is something that can be taken away. They have strength and weaknesses and go through issues of daily life like the rest of us. If they are going to be held to a higher standard than the average person because they are rich or belong to a certain social class, those of us with the same privileged should also be held to the same high
