Imagine day you’re sitting in class and all the sudden you hear loud sounds like gunshots, and the principal came over the intercom and said to lock all doors there is a shooter in the building. The teachers and students have no way to fight back due to the law on carrying arms on school premises. How would you feel in that situation versus if your teacher was able to carry? The question should be ask because the percentage of school shootings has risen 3.6% over the years. Teachers should be able to protect their students, its their job to make sure that their students are safe and protected.…
Others disagree with the idea, arguing that it would attract violence and could be misused. I believe that students should not be permitted to carry concealed firearms…
If teachers have access to the weapons, an intruder could also gain access only increasing the potential for violence. Concealed handguns in the schools would be kept in a secure area and teachers and administrators would have strict procedures in carrying the gun on school grounds. There would be more responsibility for the teachers and administrators, but in order to protect students teachers would welcome new regulations. The battle continues in state legislatures across the country.…
Why shouldn’t schools do locker searches? Why do many students dislike locker checks? Many students don’t like locker checks because it invades there privacy, but by doing this many lives can be saved. These checks are required because malicious students bring drugs and weapons to school and store them in the lockers. Random locker checks should be made mandatory and done commonly to assure the safety of the students.…
Searching students’ belongings should only be done if there is reasonable evidence that a student is breaking the rules set by the school, or has substances or weapons not allowed by the school. Over the years, administrators and teachers have been given more freedom to search student belonging without violating their 4th Amendment rights. The reason behind these searches is to protect the safety of others including the person we are searching. In this scenario, the decision of the teacher to search belongings would not be enough of a probable cause, unless the teacher has enough evidence that the scissors can be used as a weapon or to commit harm to themselves. From the sound of it, the scissors are not the ones we let the students use, but those of a teacher, which are a lot stronger and can actually cause some type of harm.…
David Burnett in his article “Students should have the right to carry guns on college campuses,” states that students and professors have the right to carry concealed guns in college campuses. The right of concealed carry should be allow to license individuals, so when faced with a criminal they can defend themselves. He argues that “gun-free zones colleges only serves to protect killers by ensuring they will face no resistance” (Burnett). On the other hand, Dickerson, the author of “Students should not be allowed to Carry Guns on College Campuses,” claims that allowing guns in colleges will only increase violence because the average college student lacks the maturity to make the right judgment when faced with a stressful situation. He claims that there is not enough evidence that concealed carry gun policies will decrease crime.…
Allowing qualified civilians to continue to carry in the classroom setting would save lives. School shootings have not been stopped until law enforcement arrived or the shooter took their own life. How many lives could have been saved, how many countless deaths will be prevented by changing our…
Although open carry has been allowed since August 2016, the idea of carrying a guns on campus is not needed. In a classroom, where the students attend lectures of the given professor is not needed. The number of crime rate will be increased in either homicides or suicides. An awareness of knowing someone has a gun on them at the moment will distract students causing them to feel uncomfortable and unsafe. Guns will be used in self-defense to fend off against the ones who will use their weapon to terrorize the school but the public safety should be left to the professionals who are trained for any uprising.…
After the Sandy Hook (2013) shooting the National Rifle Association suggested that every school in America no matter the size have armed guards. Looking the enrollment size of a school with less than three hundred people about twenty-three percent of schools had security guards or sworn in officers in (2005-2006) school year; and about twenty-seven point six percent in (2007-2008) and the number goes down to twenty-five percent in (2009-2010) school year. When the enrollment size increases to 300-499 students, the same pattern occurs with a school enrollment size 300 or less. In the school year 2005-2006 about thirty percent of schools had security guards or sworn in officers. In the school year 2007-2008 the number increases to thirty-six percent of school nation wide having armed personnel in schools.…
The weapons are going to threaten some students, while others would love to carry guns in campus. As a consequence, the number of students will decrease in campuses. Colleges and Universities are supposed to be the safer places where students come to learn not to threat…
Therefore, the law would not necessarily cause more shootings to occur as shooters do not follow the law anyway. On the other hand, critics argue that the firearms would strongly affect school life through curriculum changes away from controversial topics to subdue anger and possible shooting outbreaks, and that large financial sums would be required in order to fund additional campus security, gun storage units, and enforcement programs to protect student body safety. The funding would have to be taken out of research programs and school projects, which would decrease educational value and prospects for students. While private universities are allowed to opt out of the bill, which the majority did, the public universities are unable to, adding to the dissent against the legislation for underrepresentation. In my opinion, I side with the group against campus carry due to the importance of education and the mission statement of a university.…
Every day silent tragedies come upon us. Tragedies like the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting is when we mourn the twenty innocent children who will never get the chance to grow old and experience life. Not one person deserved to go through the horror of a psychopath storming into a school and pulling that trigger. The open carry law in Texas should be prohibited. Many individuals with a permit to carry weapons claim they will obey the law but this is very misleading.…
It is very common for kids to be on their electronics, such as their cell phones during class in school. When they are on their electronics, these kids will get them taken away, however they can be very useful and helpful when it comes to school work. Electronics can be used in place of textbooks for educational purposes, they can help kids stay organized, and working with electronics will prepare kids for working in different fields. Students should be allowed to use their electronics in school because it could improve their education.…
School rules are very important for keeping the school, teachers and students safe. One school rule that is very important is, ‘No backpacks on the stairs.’ It is a very important rule because, a person could trip over a backpack, causing injuries, things in people’s backpacks could catch on fire and cause people to not get out of the building safely, and people’s personal belongings could be stolen. ‘No backpacks on the stairs’ is an important rule because people could possibly trip over a backpack, and cause an injury. If a person got an injury at the school, the parents could possibly sue the school for safety regulations.…
If guns were allowed on campuses it would make students and teachers…
