Should Athletes Be Paid

Decent Essays
I feel that athletes should not be paid unless they are part of the large, known teams. They should not be paid the extreme amount of money that they are getting paid right now. I feel that they are playing a game for the entertainment of them and the audience and should not be paid more than the people who protect or have protected our country. Scholarships are enough to pay for college especially when you sign up for as many as you can and get the grants you are eligible for. Generally any job that you enjoy should pay depending on how much it affects real world economy. Last I checked, football doesn’t produce anything except entertainment and should be paid less than regular actors because football is football and won’t change unlike

Should NCAA athletes be paid by Alexis molina I fully think that NCAA athletes should be paid for their effort on their college team. College athletics have gained immense popularity among Americans over the past few decades. This has resulted into increased in a lot of money for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the participating colleges, which has sparked the debate of whether college athletes should be given money beyond their athletic scholarships but I think they should get paid for the following reason they should be paid because without the players that risk injuries on the team the association would not make the money they do now and their coaches get paid but why not them and most importantly students after…

Many Division 1 athletes can receive up to $60,000 multiyear scholarships and some Division 2 athletes can receive partial scholarships. They are getting these scholarships to help pay for an education because most of them can’t afford to go to a Division 1 or Division 2 school. Also these players are bringing in money for their schools by TV contracts, advertising, merchandising and ticket sales. The top men’s basketball and football teams can bring in about $140 million a year and by doing that, it can help them have those scholarships. Another reason I don’t think that college athletes should get paid, is because they are getting a free education…

A main argument in Collegiate level sports is if the student athletes should receive pay or not. Former athletes may argue that a student playing a sport at a university should be paid; some spectators do not see pay for college athletes is a necessity needed. For some athletes tuition, room and board, and book expenses are covered through a full athletic scholarship, and these scholarships are still more than what academic students can receive (Block). What more could the athletes possibly want from the university? The athletes are being noticed throughout the whole country on Entertainment and Sports Programming Network (ESPN) channels, isn’t the publicity enough plus earning a free college degree?…

The topic has been discussed on numerous occasions on whether or not college athletes should be paid for playing sports for major universities. A lot of people feel that they should get paid for the hard work they do, while others such as myself say that they should not be paid. College students should not get paid due to the fact that they are already getting paid on scholarships, it hurts the school, and it doesn’t further their education. The first reason I feel that college athletes shouldn’t be paid is due to the fact that a lot of them are already having their education paid for due to scholarships. Now not every single college athlete gets a full scholarship but a lot of them do.…

College athletes should be paid because they’re working a full-time job. If the average NCAA college football player in Division One spends over 40 hours a week on their game, then they are working the same amount as those in full-time employment do. These hours are distributed over training sessions, games, travel and other required sessions that student athletes must attend in order to remain on the team and keep their full scholarship (Top). The majority of these student athletes cannot qualify for work study or apply for off campus job because of their busy…

As a society, we have witnessed how sports have quickly taken over as a dominant feature of the human culture. College sports as a whole has taken the sports world by storm, there we see the best young talent in the country play against one another as they represent some of the greatest institutions in the nation. As the years go by, it seems like that the best players in the NCAA decide to leave their colleges earlier each year to chase their dreams of playing professional sports. I think this is a cancer to collegiate athletics that the NCAA committee needs to cut out as soon as possible. To these athletes it seems like a great idea to declare for their professional statuses early, however; it is only hurting them in the long run.…

Universities across the country make millions of dollars every year from college athletics. However, student-athletes receive nothing except for college tuition and room/board in return, even though they are the foundation of the entire industry. This one-sided trend must not continue, for college athletes often struggle to pay for transportation, clothing, a place to live and food to eat, while the universities reap the rewards from their labors. College athletes should be paid money in some form as compensation for universities using their likeness and profiting from their athletic exploits. The first reason college athletes should be paid is that while playing sports for their schools they risk injury, and they lose time for studying which can affect their learning.…

The debate on whether college athletes should be rewarded for their dedication to sports through payment has many different arguments to it. Although some would argue that athletes do not deserve to be paid, it would be fair for them to receive compensation for their hard work. College athletes should be paid because they deserve it based on the amount of the work they put into their lifestyle, the college sports industry would be more than able to afford it, and it is immoral and possibly illegal to prevent the athletes from being paid. Critics to this idea argue that there are already enough advantages given for being a student-athlete such as: generous scholarships, exposure to future contract opportunities, and access to beneficial networks (Text 3, lines 23,26-28). This is not entirely accurate, however, because many athletes struggle with maintaining a stable financial situation.…

College is a time to prepare those for a career that lies ahead where they will make a living. Scholarships are already paying athletes to represent their school.
