Athletes are good role models they have the power and following to reach out and give voice to people or topics that go unnoticed. Athletes have the ability to gather and give resources that others can not. they have or are still chasing dreams which others can see and can use as inspiration to do the same. Athletes are good role models because they give voice, give back, give inspiration One reason athletes can be good role models is because athletes give voice to people who can not talk and express opinions. Muhammad Ali gave voice to the Civil Rights movements in ways others could not. JJ Watt helps with multiple charities through the JJ Watt Foundation. One supports after school opportunities for middle schools so kids can learn good character traits. Has donated $3,846,852 just in 2018 alone and has spread that money out between 15 different schools allowing them to buy the proper protective equipment for all sports. Another charity helped support hurricane Harvey relief providing food, time, and money to communities in and around Houston. Originally setting out to raise $200,000 but in a short time reached that goal kept going and was able to provide 37 million dollars to go towards relief efforts in Houston. JJ Watt also hosts a home run derby/ softball game with the Houston Texans and all the money goes to the JJ watt foundation this event alone has raised nearly 3 million since 2013 (JJW foundation). When another natural disaster struck Tim Duncan set out to help his homeland the Virgin Islands originally setting out to raise $250,000. By the time he had finished raising money for hurricane Irma relief he had accumulated 1 million dollars. With that money he filled a plane with food, water, blankets, and other important supplies that would go on to greatly help the Virgin Islands (McCray).
