Is is acceptable to allow professional athletes to protest events taking place today? Professional athletes should absolutely have the right to use their status to protest events and causes taking place today! On the other hand, some people strongly believe that athletes take it way too far, and it is unreasonable for them to protest in a way their heart desires. Also, they don’t appreciate the creative mind of an athlete coming up with unique ways to express their beliefs. Using status to protest can help professional athletes raise awareness for a cause. For example, one individual wanted to raise awareness for racial inequality. Tim Wendel wrote, “Colin Kaepernick began refusing to stand for the national anthem… and Kaepernick isn’t the first to stand against racial inequality.” Kaepernick wants to reveal to us that not everything is just, free, fair, or “sunny” for all citizens of America. In addition, some athletes protest for the Black Lives Matter Movement. To prove, “In July, Minnesota Lynx players, part of the WNBA, wore Black Live Matter t-shirts before a game. For example, a few people say, “America has at times failed to live up to its ideals, but it has made progress. America did not cause every tragedy. Should people stand on the U.S. flag and burn it? Is that showing appreciation for our great times?” However, through consequences, everyone can still see the lesson the athlete is getting across.
