The Pentagon is paying sports teams several million dollars to present patriotic things. The pentagon signed 72 contracts worth $10 million with Major League Baseball, National Football League's, Major League Soccer and the National Hockey League teams. The Milwaukee Brewers were paid $49,000 to let the Wisconsin Army National Guard sing “God Bless America.” The New York Jets were paid $20,000 to recognize a few New Jersey Army National Guard soldiers as hometown heroes. Any teams that were paid to display anything patriotic has to return all of the money they were paid because patriotism and profits don’t mix. Armies and veterans shouldn’t have to pay sports teams to be allowed to do patriotic things at games. Paying to return the favor and show some respect for our veterans should not be allowed in any sporting event. …show more content…
If they were the ones fighting and risking everything they would want to be recognized for what they do for their country. They wouldn’t want to be the ones that go out in front of millions of people at a sporting event knowing that they are only there because the Pentagon paid the team to let them stand out there. Soldiers are very important people who deserve nothing but respect from everyone. It’s sad to think that 72 contracts were signed and millions of dollars were put into recognizing our country and our heroes.
No one should ever disagree with this being wrong. People who think that it’s right to pay sports teams have no idea what it’s like to be in a war. They have no idea how good they really have it with our soldiers fighting day and night never knowing if they’re going to make it or not. Some soldiers wake up and have to live with the fact that their best friend was just killed during war. Family members have to go months without seeing their loved ones just so they can fight for our freedom. No one has a “perfect” life but no one would have the life they have without our soldiers and

What is the major issue with collegiate sports? Most Americans would condemn college athletes for the negative connotations that people associate with college sports. However, the real issue is the NCAA circumventing any charges for the illegal trusts they have developed. The NCAA’s no-pay rule creates both an unlawful form of wage fixing and a felonious group boycott and therefore should be revoked. College athletes bring billions of dollars to the NCAA each year, making the NCAA one of the wealthiest businesses in America.…

People may also argue the fact that these student athletes can and probably will get hurt playing their sport and they should get paid. This is a terrible argument because the student is playing the sport at their own risk and they know this. Just because a student athlete gets injured is no reason to start paying them money. When the athlete takes the scholarship to play the sport they know that they are at risk of injury. If the athlete does get hurt it is not the colleges’ or the NCAA’s responsibility to begin paying the athlete money.…

Universities sell jerseys and other merchandise with the likeness of athletes, and profit from the sales, yet athletes cannot receive any money in return. The recent court case concerning EA Sports and its use of the numbers and positions of college athletes in video games while the actual athletes receives nothing in return is unacceptable. These are both examples of student-athletes being taken advantage of so that the NCAA and other companies can make more money.
