Should Art Education Be Required In Schools Essay

Picture this, a kid standing on the stage at Julliard. The kid is crying because they are so proud of the performance that they just put on for their audience. Having arts education can be the reason that some kids go to school everyday. Many high schools are not requiring art classes every year of high school. While art classes may not be the most important subject, there are many reasons why they need to be required throughout high school. Art classes should be required in every year of high school, because it's required in elementary, it improves test scores, and is important for developing many other skills. When you walk in most elementary schools, there's usually many arts and crafts up on the walls. Students are picking up recorders for the first time and trying to learn how to play. “However, arts integration can provide arts exposure to students and provide new ways of thinking in and through curriculum and encourages educators (and students) to make meaningful connection between themselves and the rest of the world and travel on their own unique journey, thus embodying curriculum” (Lara). Providing new ways of thinking is something that all schools try to do. Arts education will allow students to be better with numeracy, reading, and create cognitive growth in their brain. With all of these in mind there are even some arts programs, such as marching band, that can be used to provide physical education as well. When a student is sitting in a math class they only think about math, but when in a band, choir, or dance class they are thinking about math as well as music or routines.
