Should animal abuse be illegal?
Some people might think animal abuse is only defined as physically hurting an animal, but in reality is really much worse. A lot do not realize how big of an issue this is that is being taken so lightly over all. This is because the information is not circulating like it should be. People need to learn that a big connection between animal abuse and domestic violence as well as violent crimes is a large issue in todays society and is taken more lightly than it should.
“In 2014, the FBI announced that it will add cruelty to animals as a category in the agency’s Uniform Crime Report, a nationwide crime-reporting system. While only about a third

Before letting anyone adopt or purchase any animal, they should have to do a background check and only allow to those with clear records. I am aware that some facilities do run background checks, but it is not a law. “26 women who had been the subjects of domestic violence reported that their male partners had also verbally and/or physically abused the household pet(s), yet the majority of the women were unwilling to discuss it with their veterinarian.” (Bourazak, Lisa, Kate Creevy, and Karen Cornell.) This means that more than 26 women were abused as a result of abuse of their animals first. Like I said earlier, it is clear that these abusers think they can get away with such cruelty to animals that they then think it is okay to do this to humans as well. So if households that are currently housing a felon or carry any type of record should not be able to house any sort of animal. Another way to decrease the amount of animal abuse is to simply report any suspiciousness that you see around. Maybe a neighbor is acting weird or you see them not treating their animals the right way in the back yard. All it takes is a phone call and you could potentially save the life of a dog or a cat or even a human. It truly is amazing what something so little could do to save something with such a big …show more content…
Simply when the living environment becomes difficult meaning when you are not sure on the exact number, and most importantly when the individual is unable to provide minimal standard of nutrition, sanitation, shelter and vet care. With this neglect, it can result in starvation, illnesses and even death. This type of environment is known as “animal hoarding” and is most common in woman over 60, and people with mental illnesses and other matters like depression, paranoia, and different kinds of attachment disorders. “Animal hoarders often appear intelligent and clearly believe they are helping their animals. In addition, many hoarders possess the ability to garner sympathy and to deceive others into thinking their situation is under control. They often are blind to the fact that their animals are suffering under their care.” (aspca) This goes along with how a lot of the hoarders have illnesses and really just think they are helping these animals but really are killing them. Animal hoarding is an important part in animal abuse because it not only hurts and kills a large amount of animals, but it also hurts and kills them in bulks because of the spaces they are held in. If people simply take 5 minutes out of their day to make a phone call in regards to seeing animal hoarding/ cruelty, it can help save the lives of many animals that are in harm. We need to see more positives in this world and less

Approximately every 10 seconds, an animal is abused in some way, shape, or form in America. In 1966 President Johnson signed the Animal Welfare Act, which is the only federal law that protects and regulates the rights of animals in the United States to date (“Animal Welfare” 2017). All of the states have laws to protect animals, but the consequences and offences outlined in the laws differ in every state. This lack of laws and consequences causes the need for a discussion of the rights of animals in America.…
