Should Americans Have The Right To Vote

America is a special country. We Americans have more rights than most other countries in the world. One of these rights is the right to vote. While we have the right to vote, only half of the registered voters in America have actually voted in the last 40 years. We have one of the lowest polling rates of all the democratic countries. It is mostly because people are lazy or they forget to register but some of them have a point. They don’t think that they need to vote because there are millions of other people in America to vote for them and what does one vote matter compared to millions of other votes. One of the most important reasons to vote is because it is a civic responsibility and it is the most important civic responsibility. This is a problem because if less people vote, then the government doesn’t have an accurate reading of what America wants. They only know what some Americans want. Then the people who don’t vote could be stuck with someone they don’t like for four years or more. Let’s take the recent vote for example. A lot of people who were Donald Trump supporters remained silent throughout the whole campaign so that they wouldn’t be labeled as racist or sexist. Because Hillary had an 85% chance of winning before the election according to the New York Times, many people assumed that Hillary Clinton would win so they didn’t come out and vote. When voting day came, all of the secret Trump supporters came out while many of Hillary’s supporters stayed home so, consequently, Donald Trump won.
