Why Should Animals Be Treated?

Have you ever been in a situation where you felt completely paralyzed, alone and afraid? Rethink that feeling, imagine feeling like that every second of every day while everyone sits around and watches but does nothing. Now picture that moment from an outsider's perspective, you're seeing this happen, what would you do? According to ASPCA, an animal is being abused every ten seconds in America alone. Right under our noses there are creatures feeling paralyzed and what do we do? Contrary to popular belief all animals deserve to be treated with love, care and respect because they are living beings, they have real feelings and no way to defend themselves.
Animals, just like humans, feel pain; whether it's physical or emotional they feel it and it affects them as it affects us. “The question is not can they reason? Nor, can they talk? Some people may argue that the needs of a human are more important than those of an animal. Maybe this is true for some people, but I disagree, animals have many other purposes than the use of humans, yes they give us food, milk, cotton, etc. but that is not their sole purpose. No matter how you feel about any and all animals, they are still living creatures who deserve only love, care and respect. “Nothing living should ever be treated with contempt. Whatever it is that lives, a man, a tree, or a bird, should be touched gently, because the time is short. Civilization is another word for respect for life …” (Goudge) No animal deserves to be taken out of their homes, forced to reproduce, filled with steroids, stuffed in dirty cages, or slaughtered. In our society, people get thrown in jail for treating others this way, why can't we show the same respect for
