Should Abortion Be Made Illegal?

Improved Essays
Many groups that stand against abortions are religious, and believe that abortions should be made illegal because it is morally unjust to kill a fetus, or in the eyes of some, a child. However, abortion is no longer a legal option in a pregnancy after the woman is twenty-four or more weeks pregnant. Once a woman is past the twenty-four week mark, the fetus in question is viable, meaning it would be able to survive outside of the womb. A fetus that has not yet reached twenty-four weeks old in the womb would not be able to live if the mother were to go into labor. Post-viable fetuses are not yet children, they are a collection of cells that are still developing everyday. These fetuses have not yet developed a cortex, which is necessary to feel

With the help of medical professionals, a general consensus was reached stating that prenatal life, or a fetus, is technically viable – that is, able to live outside the womb no longer dependent on the mother – by the third trimester of a pregnancy, or at 24 weeks. An earlier removal of the fetus from the womb would likely result in an inability to perform basic functions, such as breathing due to incomplete development (Breborowicz). While the abortion rights following the first three months of pregnancy are not quite clear or consistent across states, Roe v Wade essentially mandated that within the first trimester, a woman is free to undergo an abortion and make that decision solely with her doctor, and…

Women around the world have used abortion to control their reproduction at every point in history and in every known society for an ample amount of reasons. The decision to have an abortion is typically motivated by multiple, diverse and interrelated reasons but the 3 most common causes would be the fact that the mother is too young and not prepared for the transition into motherhood, the second reason being financial complications and the final reason is the fact that a young child could interfere with studies in school and also work. The topic of abortion is a touchy subject because many people agree with it and many people don’t, but regardless of the pros and cons of the situation, it is important to understand what factors help women make…

For pro-life activists, there are two opinions. The first overwhelming opinion is that once the child is conceived, it is living. The second follows the idea of once a mother feels the child “kick,” which is around the eighth week, it is living. For pro-choice activists, scientific fact argues loudly that the fetus is absolutely “unable to sustain life outside the woman’s womb… instead an in utero fetus with the potential of becoming a child.” (Planning Parenthood)…

Abortion isn’t murder until at least 24 weeks after conception/fertilization. This is where most people are confused. It 's easy to argue that a baby is a baby but yet at the same time scientifically a human isn 't considered a human until at least 20 weeks. From conception until 24 weeks it 's just considered a sac of cells and given the name “fetus” which normally we refer that name to an unborn baby.…

There has been an increase with the problem of late term abortion. Especially with the recent presidential election/debates of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. The woman chose to do what she did, so she should either keep the baby, or give the baby up for adoption. Late Term Abortions should be banned because they lead to the possibilities of health problems, the baby is viable of living outside of the womb at this point, and it is violently and painfully dismembering the child. When a woman gets an abortion, the door to health problems opens up.…

    Abortion Should Be Legal

“In 1965, illegal abortions made up one-sixth of all pregnancy – and childbirth – related deaths” (“Abortion Access”). This justifies that if abortion isn’t legal, then those who want to get rid of the fetus will perform illegal abortions such as self-abortion. As a result, those who perform self-abortion will end up harming themselves. Although many are against abortion because they consider it evil/inhumane, it should be legal because the mother could have been raped, have a disabled fetus, or have an unwanted pregnancy.…

Since 1760 BC, abortions have been sought-out internationally. There are a variety of reasons for them: because sexually abused women do not desire for guardianship of the child, females do not want their body to be unfit because of pregnancy, or it was a careless mistake that could have been prevented with birth control or any other prevention method. Many women have nonessential abortions. One quintessential example of this is in China; they kill fetuses if the sonogram proves the unborn child to be female. Abortions should be illegal because it is unjust and purposeless slaughter to the unborn human being.…
