Abortion: A Woman Should Have The Right To Life

Improved Essays
This is an important point for it goes with the fact that even though a fetus has the right to life, it does not necessarily give it the right to use the mother’s body. Especially when the mother is not ready for the pregnancy or not ready to be a mother for any reason. It also shows that it is not wrong for a woman to get an abortion because she has the right to control what goes into or comes out of her body. If a woman has an unwanted pregnancy, she has the right to want the fetus out of her, and to do something about it. That fetus has no more of a right to use the woman’s body to gain life than the woman’s right to get rid of the unwanted fetus. Even if there is a fault in the type of birth control this woman is using, there is no …show more content…
If a woman is raped and it results in pregnancy, it is okay for her to get an abortion. Some people may say that just because the woman was raped, doesn’t mean that the fetus now doesn’t deserve a chance at life. But if a woman is not ready to get pregnant, and is not ready to have a child, then abortion is an option. Yes, there is adoption, but one can make a case for the pregnancy itself being as difficult for the victim as having the child. A woman needs to be ready to go through pregnancy. It is not an easy process and it is not always the fact that they don’t want a baby that prevents a woman from getting pregnant. Sometimes a woman does not want to go through the pregnancy yet because she does not feel ready. If she is not ready and it is not her fault, she shouldn’t be forced to go through the pregnancy. Someone has attacked this woman and caused her to have a fetus grow inside of her. She did not want this, she did not ask for this, but it happened. There is no reason why someone should say she is wrong for wanting to rid herself of this fetus that is taking energy and nutrients from her and making it uncomfortable for this woman to …show more content…
Let’s say the mother isn’t trying to get pregnant, but she ends up accidentally messing up her birth control. She doesn’t mean to get pregnant, she won’t be able to survive the pregnancy, and therefore, the fetus has very little chance of survival. This makes it absolutely okay for the mother to get an abortion. Some people may argue that the fetus still has a chance at being born, so getting an abortion doesn’t seem like the only option. They think that if there is a chance of survival for the fetus, there should be measures taken to ensure a life for the fetus. But that isn’t always the right thing to do. What if, in this case, the mother dies before the child is born? Then the chance of survival for the fetus is very small. There is no reason to let the mother die because of a small probability that the fetus may survive. Even if the mother does not die before the child is born, she may die while giving birth, which does not guarantee life for the unborn fetus. Not only that, but this fetus’s small chance at life is now depriving the mother of her own life. It is clear that a living person’s life is more important than the chance of survival for an unborn fetus. Therefore, the decision between a small chance of giving someone life versus taking away a life that has already been established, and which others depend on, doesn’t sound so

The mother that is carrying the child still has rights to autonomy and control over herself. Yet, the fetus also has the right to life and right to life without harm. Minkoff and Paltrow states, “In so doing, they suggest a need to balance rights when those rights appear to conflict with each other, a potentially to subordinate the rights of the women to those of the fetus” (Minkoff and Paltrow, p. 757). Minkoff and Paltrow suggest that unborn children have rights and pregnant women have value.…

The newly fertilized ovum is no more a person than an acorn is an oak tree. Suppose we assume, just for the sake of argument, that the fetus is a person with the right to life from the moment of conception. It does not follow; she argues that abortion is never justified. She appeals to a series of imaginary cases, such as being kidnapped and plugged into a famous violinist, being trapped in a tiny house with a growing child, and having people seeds growing in your carpet. Reflection on these cases shows that the right to life is only the right not to be killed unjustly; it does not entail the right to use your body or to live in your house.…

Disregarding the mother’s perspective can be compared to getting an arm amputated and declaring the action is immoral from the arms point of view. Abortion differs in each case and no situation is the same, to equate a case to another is immoral and unfair to the parties involved. Marquis writes “Since we do believe that it is wrong to kill defenseless little babies, it is important that a theory of the wrongness of killing easily account for this” although he is using emotional blackmail, it does not stray me from pointing out that embryos are not babies and due to the account of miscarriages and health issues it is not determined they will have a future. Pregnancy is a dangerous time for the mother and fetus and most miscarriages happen between 7 and 12 weeks. Killing is the worst of crimes except in the cases of self-defense.…

The premise that I consider to be especially well-supported is the fetus is a complete person in an immature phase of development. It gives many examples of Pro-Choice defender arguments and why they are invalid. I do not consider any premise in this chapter to be inadequately supported. All the premises were well defined and posed both stances of the argument. The important information that I would like to have seen included in this article is the first hand accounts of both women who have had an abortion and those who didn’t and their opinion or reasoning on the matter.…

People are known for having sympathetic feelings to a child who is visible over the unborn fetus. However, pro-life activists hold that emotions that cannot form a basis for justifying birth. With the fetus being born or not being born; the fetus does have a chance in becoming a full human being. Viability of a fetus to survive outside the womb independently is when the fetus is able to get that ‘full human being’ status. Abortion also raises ethical issues of character.…

If a female decides that she does not want to carry a pregnancy to term, that is her prerogative. It is a decision that will solely affect her life, so she she be the one to make it. Some women are raped, resulting in a pregnancy. Pro-Life advocates argue that the resulted fetus should not be aborted because it is innocent and aborting it will be punishment, however, they do not put into consideration the women’s emotional and mental state. Another reason women get abortions, is if there is something medically wrong with the fetus.…

Yeah some mothers might not be suitable to have a baby but, that doesn 't mean you have to kill it. There are so many circumstantial situations, which should be acknowledged while making the choice whether one should proceed with terminating a pregnancy. Although it’s easy to make an opinion on how morally and ethically disgusting it is to murder just a child, there will never be proof that the fetus instead a woman’s body is a living being. Instead of judging these women for their choices, one should put themselves in their shoes and see just how much of an impact the choice of abortion or no abortion can make. All women deserve a second chance. It should be permitted to allow women to decide for themselves based on the impacts on themselves, their family and their unborn child, whether or not an abortion would be the best…
