People who are deeply religious often practice the belief of being pro-life because it is what their religion teaches them. A vast majority of Catholics, Christians, Buddhists, among a variety of other religions all teach that abortion to some degree is wrong. Christianity teaches that abortion is wrong under all circumstances as in Jeremiah 1:4-5 it is read,” Now the word of the Lord came to me saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you…”5 It is verses like this that make some people have misconceptions about what happens in the womb versus the facts that medicine and science give society. Well what ever happened to freedom of religion which is guaranteed in section 2 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms? Nothing happened to it, it still exists to this day and it still guarantees every Canadian citizen the right to choose his or her religion. So if the illegalization of abortion is based on religion then what good would this law be if it infringes against the beliefs of others.
