Ruth Bader Ginsburg, an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, once made a statement, “The emphasis must be not on the right to abortion but on the right to privacy and reproductive control.” In today society, it is undeniable that legalization of abortion is one of the most controversial and hotly debated topics. There are various positions taken on this heated issue. I personally believe that abortion should be legal due to several distinct reasons. Three of the most persuasive reasons for abortion are access to legal abortion reduces injury and death caused by unsafe abortion, women’s personal choice over their life and their future and the most important is the unwanted children’s future. To begin with, legalizing abortion provides women with reliable access to professionally-performed abortions.
