In reality, medical research shows it is very likely fetuses do not feel pain until the third trimester begins. Although it is uncertain at what stage the fetus actually develops pain receptors, it is highly likely they develop in the third trimester. Before abortion was legalized in 1973 due to the ruling or Roe vs. Wade, illegal abortions were performed using handers, knitting needles and chemicals (Patt Morrison, "The Coat Hanger, Symbol of Dangerous, Pre-Roe Abortions, Is Back,"). These procedures are not done carefully or thoroughly, causing health issues afterwards. A study done in 2004 estimated 68,000 deaths caused by unsafe abortions (he World Health Organization). Preventing legalization of abortions does and will not prevent women from taking that action; they will instead seek dangerous procedures. With the legalization of abortion, women have access to safe procedures that will not cause any temporary or permanent harm to their bodies. Choosing abortion is a woman’s constitutional right. The government should not able decide when abortion is acceptable and when it is not. With the legalization of abortion, women have control over their bodies. They will be able to decide if they can financially afford to have a child and prevent future hardships. To lower the rates of maternal deaths and life threatening medical conditions in the child, abortion should be a legal option. A child should come into this world wanted. If a mother decides abortion is what is best for both her and the child, she should be able to make that
